STORIE E COSE DA PORTARE A BORDO

Genova, primi anni del '900.

Vicino alla Stazione Marittima, sul lato destro della banchina, è presente la Dogana, dove un tempo si ritirava la "paccottiglia". Ma che cos'era la paccottiglia? La mercanzia che i marinai potevano portare a bordo, una volta sostati in un porto, e commerciare. In genere si trattava di cose di poco valore: un paio di stecche di sigarette, una bottiglia di whisky, due chili di caffè in grani. Talvolta però i marittimi trasportavano regalini da portare a casa, acquistati o barattati in un luogo lontano. Oggetti di dimensioni ridotte ma di grande valore…

Paccottiglia è un piccolo concept store, ormeggiato nel cuore di Genova,  dove sono temporaneamente stivate insolite ed eleganti cianfrusaglie di design, avvistate durante viaggi ed esplorazioni.

La mercanzia proposta da Paccottiglia è unica e audace, frutto dell'estro di abili manipolatori della materia, intelaiatori di storie e stoffe, alchimisti della carta e delle idee.

Paccottiglia è un rifugio eterogeneo di ninnoli stilosi e accessori fieramente superflui: un'insolita bottega che non riesce a prendersi completamente sul serio e che custodisce cose e storie provenienti da tutto il mondo.

Genoa, the beginning of the 900s or the beginning of the 10th century.

Next to the maritime station, on the right side of the quay, there's the customhouse, where the “paccottiglia” used to be collected.

But what were the “paccottiglia”? All the goods that the sailors were allowed to bring on board, which were traded once they arrived at the port. Usually those were things of little value: a few packs of cigarettes, a bottle of whiskey, two kilos of coffee beans. Sometimes, though, sailors were transporting gifts to bring home, bought or swapped in a faraway place. 

They were really small goods but very valuable. 

Paccottiglia is a small concept store, docked right in the heart of Genoa, where you can find  unusual and elegant bits and bobs of design, found during travels and explorations. 

The goods that you can find in Paccottiglia are bold and unique, they are the results of craftsmen`s creative minds like weavers of stories and fabrics or alchemists of ideas and paper. 

Paccottiglia is the house of stylish baubles and deliberately unnecessary accessories; an unusual shop that can't take itself too seriously and that hides goods and stories coming from all around the world.
